Time flies when you are short of it. We are one month away from the 90th friends and family get together, as we are now calling it, for Betty Wooden.

I wish I had more pictures to share but I don’t, the first one is April 1982 at my wedding, your mom was pulling out my dad’s pockets to show he was broke as we were leaving the reception. The second one is your house in Atlanta? Year but Walt is a baby. The third picture I threw in for fun, you let me tag along on a river day while I was visiting Atlanta I’m guessing 1967? Mom

I guess it is appropriate that I go first since I am the oldest child of Betty and Jerry Wooden. Some would like to call me “pancake” since the first one is always a mistake. But I was never treated that way.

Mom and Dad are great parents. Dad had the strong hand and firm voice and Mom guided with love a tender heart and a soft voice.

I can still remember the first (maybe it wasn’t the first, but it was the first I remember) spanking Mom gave me. I was throwing dirt clods at a neighbor kid and didn’t stop when I was told to. Mom grabbed the yard stick from behind the door and bent me over her knee and proceeded to spank me. After one or two licks I realized that the yard stick was balsa wood a both Mom and I started laughing.
